National Library Week WINNERS

The library celebrated National Library Week during April 15 to April 20.  Winners of the two Nook SimpleTouch with Glowlights were announced on Monday, April 22. Nearly 200 patrons entered to win at the library by answering the question, “Why I Love My Library.” The second Nook was given away to one of 55 online entries explaining why “My Library Rocks.” The winners were Jeff Romack for the in-house drawing and Nathan Mestemaker for the online drawing. In addition, the library gave away approximately 100 eFriendly library book bags to patron who checked out more than 5 items. A special thanks to everyone for their kind words. Pictured are the winners in front of the display of entries. 























The library held its first ever Rockin' Lock-in on Friday, April 26th.  More than 50 kids ages 9 to 13 had a blast after hours @ the library.  Our own FoRizzle Lizzle & GMoney were the DJs for a Rockin' Dance party in the library commons. Three Wii Gaming stations as well as Pizza and other snacks were enjoyed in the community room.  A croquet course and a hanging donuts game were also available for everyone to play.  We are definitely going to do this again, so follow us on Facebook to watch for announcements, because pre-registration will be required.

The 2013 Summer Reading Program at the Mercer County Library



begins on May 30th and runs through August 2nd!




This summer, we’ll be digging into great books and great fun as we learn all about construction machines, rocks, gems, mummies and artifacts, caves, dinosaurs, gardening and lots of other things that go under the earth! We’ll have our weekly Story and Craft sessions where we’ll cover a new and exciting subject each week as well as cool special events throughout the entire summer!

When school lets out, don’t get bored- EXPLORE!

Beat the rush! Early registration begins May 1st

We’ll start counting your books on May 31st!


The official kick-off with our pal, the incredibly fun Mr. Puppet, will be held 
Thursday, May 30th at 10:00 a.m.!

Kids can sign up one week in advance for the weekly programs and some of the special events will be open to families too. Remember, the more you read, and the more events you attend, the more chances you’ll have to win some cool prizes!

The Kids Summer Reading Program is open to ages birth to 12, but if you’re older than 12, don’t worry! We also have a Teen Summer Reading Club for the older kids with its own programs and prizes!

PIGEON Wants A Hotdog Party!!
The Pigeon is having a Hot Dog Party on Saturday, March 23rd 10:30 am to 12:00 noon at the Mercer County District Library.  Bring your family and come join us and Mo Willems' Pigeon Pal for pigeon games, pigeon crafts, pigeon prizes and of course...hotdogs! (NoT PiGeOn DoGs!) Everyone is welcome but registration is required. Sign up begins March 9.

On Friday, March 8th, Lynn and Amy from our Children's Services Department will once again be traveling to Bowling Green for the annual Summer Reading Program planning workshop. We know they'll be returning with lots of fantastic ideas for this year's program so make sure your kids are involved this year and "Dig Into Reading @ Your Library" beginning on June 2nd.

For many years, the Mercer County District Library has partnered with the Celina Kiwanis Club to provide each child entering kindergarten with a "goodie bag" filled 
with their own beginning-reader book, information on our local libraries, 
a fun bookmark and more. 
We are again assembling these treats and will soon be distributing them. If your child will be entering Kindergarten in the 2013-2014 school year, they will surely enjoy their gifts from the Mercer County Library!

Stop by the library between Feb 1st and Feb 14th to participate in our “Blind Date with a Book” program! Its easy, fast and fun. Blind Date with a Book matches you with an unknown gift wrapped book which you choose to check out at the library knowing just the genre, without knowing the author, title, etc of the selection. Then you take your book on a blind date by choosing to meet with and read it and give it a chance to make an impression.

HOLIDAY CLOSING

Touch-a-Truck Success!!


On Saturday, October 20th, the Library hosted it's 1st Annual Touch-a-Truck event. With over 150 children in attendance, the kids were able to touch and climb on many trucks including a semi from Cheeseman Trucking, an ambulance and fire truck from Celina Fire Dept, a school bus from Celina City Schools, a police cruiser from Celina Police Dept, a cement truck from St. Henry Tile Co. and a payloader, mini-digger and a skid loader from John Dieringer Construction. We want to thank everyone for coming out and enjoying the chilly afternoon!! If you know of anyone who would want to bring a truck for next years event, please let us know!

 Book Discussions @ The Mercer County District Library


 Based on the Book Discussion Group - The discussion group centers around books that were made into movies.  Adult patrons are invited to read or listen to the book, or  watch the movie and join us for a lively discussion held the first Thursday of each month beginning at 7:00 pm. 
GOOD READS! Book Discussion -  Meetings are the 3rd Tuesday of the month at 7:00 pm.  Discuss popular books, both Fiction and Non-Ficiton.  Meet fellow book lovers and participate in lively discussions, and broaden your reading scope.
